Living in the shadow of Atrial Fibrillation

Atrial fibrillation (AF), where the heart beat is fast and irregular, is a condition that often goes undiagnosed for two years or more before a serious attack brings it to the attention of your doctor. One of the greatest risks associated with AF is stroke and about 16% of all strokes are associated with the condition and is often the reason for its clinical diagnosis. A series of programmes aimed at GPs, geriatricians and neurologists to explain recent work with Aricept, a cholinesterase inhibitor, in the management of dementia. I interviewed several patients and their families and learned how this distressing disease impacts on people’s lives.
